The
British Embassy is delighted to be part of this
ground-breaking human rights initiative - Karapatan sa
Malikhaing Paraan, or KaSaMa for short.
”KaSaMa” of course means “Together”. And that is exactly what
this initiative is about. It provides opportunities for human
rights organisations and civil society groups to gather
together to share efforts, secure resources that can translate
their ideas into reality, and to promote and replicate these
innovations in other settings.
It recognises the various initiatives that have sprung from
decades of human rights work in the Philippines which can be a
fount of learning for the human rights community. |

It
enables the building of a bridge between organisations and
their experiences, so that their reach and impact can become
wider and more sustainable.
And it provides a transparent forum where human rights
activities can attract deeper analysis and new ideas for
pilots and projects can be debated. Organisations and their
experiences will be reviewed and gain positively from the
advice and suggestion of others.
The UK is home to many of the world’s leading human rights and
civil society organisations. And the British Embassy has been
promoting human rights and peace building activities in the
Philippines since the end of Martial Law. We have supported
activities of different sectors: women and children, Muslim
and Christian communities, indigenous peoples, and those
displaced by violence and conflict. We have assisted both UK
and non-UK organisations by linking them to other
organisations, providing grants, and sponsoring exchanges and
study visits.
This exciting new project offers the opportunity for a new
range of partnerships. We are enthusiastic about creating a
vital market of best practice and new ideas in human rights
work in the Philippines. I hope you will find the experience
rewarding and will be able to grab a few innovative ideas
along the way.
Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat. Mabuhay!
