We
believe that strong and effective institutions, respect for
human rights and a legal system that enjoys the people's trust
are all fundamental to achieving this goal.
The Australian Embassy is a long-standing partner to
government agencies and civil society groups in the
Philippines actively promoting and protecting human rights.
Over the years we have assisted with training workshops for
legal practitioners on remedies to address extra-judicial
killings and disappearances, supported human rights advocacy,
and funded NGOs to deliver better outcomes for children living
in poverty. Despite the inroads being made each year, there is
still more to be done.
KaSaMa will fill an identified gap by supporting organisations
that come forward with innovative projects to promote and
protect those basic rights and freedoms to which we are all
entitled.
KaSaMa is a joint effort between international donors and
local groups who want to see change, improved prospects for
marginalised people and the development of each citizen's full
potential.
I encourage all organisations engaged in development and human
rights work to support this initiative and to come forward
with their own good ideas.
